SWENET Upgrade Summary

Here you can find the latest upgrades to the Space Weather European Network Portal



The SWENET-Team is pleased to inform you about some features and functions upgrades as well as interface enhancements to the Space Weather European Network Portal:

  1. Restructured start page to provide additional information on SWENET.

    • What is SWENET?
    • What is Spaceweather?
    • What can I do on this site?



  2. Simplyfied Data Access Interface to combine data, plotting and image search functions. The following “Data Browsing” options were combined to “Data Access”.

    • Download data as text files
    • Plot data using SWENET
    • Download standard images and plots



  3. New "Latest Alerts" page displaying alerts on ap, dst, flux10, kp and xray

    • Dirct link to browse their associated data.
    • Additionally, alerts have been added to the right sidebar for quick viewing.


  4. “Tutorials” link added to the resource section containing step-by-step animated tutorials for various SWENET functions.

    • Data browsing
    • 2D and 3D plots
    • Using the "My User Preferences" section
    • Image browsing


  5. Quick-Search textfield (SWENET Search) incorporated in the right sidebar.

    • Enables quick access to SDAs, data tables and reports.

  6. More detailed "Latest Indices" page showing the most relevant space weather indices.

  7. Links to facilitate subscription to regular emails have been added.

    • Subscribe to alerts in "Latest Alerts"
    • Subscribe to data in "Latest Indices"
    • Subscribe to data in "Data Browsing"

  8. Reports are now included as possible results to the "SDA general search".

  9. Upgraded the Web Service for data access.

    • The possibility to use encrypted access via HTTPS in addition to plain HTTP has been added.
    • More and compacter demo applications (Java, PHP, Ruby) are provided.

  10. The "Image Browsing" interface has been improved.
    It is now possible to:

    • Select approximate dates and then the exact date for each image.
    • Set all approximate dates at once.
    • Compare the same image at two different points of time by activating the (advanced) comparison mode.


  11. Link to the data analysis section added to the left bar.

  12. Generation of animated images has now been implemented.

    • It is possible to select two time stamps for in an image table and generate animated images which shows the changeover from the first point of time to the other. The data is automatically thinned, with a maximum of 24 im-ages per time span.

  13. Resources section in the left sidebar expanded.
