Find out more about... Scope: What do we mean by Reserch + Applications ? This event will cover the scientific understanding of the space environment and the application of this understanding to the environmental effects on space-based and ground-based systems. Environmental areas of interest include: solar, interplanetary, cosmic-ray, magnetospheric, ionospheric and atmospheric research, as well as research on the coupling of these regions. Space weather applications of interest include: radiation effects on spacecraft and on humans, spacecraft charging, spacecraft drag, navigation and communications effects, effects on aircraft and aircrew, and the effects on ground-based systems. On-going efforts to establish methods to deal with effects will be covered, as will lessons learned from past experience. This space weather event will focus on those aspects of the space environment which give rise to effects and effects related specifically to space weather phenomena. Other events at WSC may deal in more detail with research in the various specific domains listed. Instructions for Abstract submission can be found on the COSPAR web server. Please note that the FINAL deadline for abstract submission is the 13 May 2002. The space weather session will start on 17 October (morning) and continue until 19 October (midday).
