The Antarctic Geospace Observatory NETwork (AGONET)
is an international effort and was established as a joint programme
by the working group STAR (Solar Terrestrial and Astrophysical
Research) of the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research
(SCAR).
The aims of AGONET are:
- Deploy instrumentation relevant to the detection of
ionospheric and auroral phenomenon.
- Use the data acquired for the study if
magnetosphere-ionosphere interaction all over the Antarctic
continent.
The Inter-Agency Consulative Group (AICG) for
Space Sciences was formed in 1981 and in 1986 decided to adopt Solar
-Terrestrial Science as its next project for inter-agency
coordination.
