1. Solarstorm Watch
*********************************************************************************************

From: Galaxy Zoo

We've just launched a new project inspired by the success of your work at Galaxy Zoo. http://www.solarstormwatch.com invites all of you to assist scientists studying storms that eject millions of tonnes of matter from the Sun's surface as they spread out throughout the inner solar system.

Solar Stormwatch volunteers can spot these storms and track their progress across space towards the Earth. Such storms can be harmful to astronauts in orbit and have the potential to knock out communication satellites, disrupt mobile phone networks and damage power lines. With the public's help, Solar Stormwatch will allow solar scientists to better understand these potentially dangerous storms and help to forecast their arrival time at Earth.

The more people looking at the beautiful videos collected from NASA's STEREO spacecraft, the more discoveries we will make. If you want to take part, do log on to http://www.solarstormwatch.com.

The project is part of our Zooniverse network of sites, and we hope through your efforts it'll produce as much exciting science as Galaxy Zoo has done.

2. 3rd RIN GNSS Vulnerabilities and Solutions Conference, Baska, Krk Island, Croatia, 5-8 Sep 2010 - Call for papers
*********************************************************************************************

From: Renato Filjar

Dear colleagues,

The Royal Institute of Navigation, London, UK, and the Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy, University of Nottingham, UK, have a pleasure in inviting you to the 3rd GNSS Vulnerabilities and Solutions 2010 Conference to be held on 5 - 8 September 2010 in Baska, Krk Island, Croatia.

This four-day event follows the success of three previous events held in Baska, Croatia, and aims to gather GNSS experts and focuses on GNSS problems and vulnerabilities, as well as to developments focusing on improvements in the accuracy and reliability of GNSS.

Unique environment of Baska, its natural resources and rich history, combined with friendly hospitality will again create an inspiring atmosphere for discussions and knowledge exchange, well known to those who attended the last year's conference.

Although the conference covers all aspects of satellite navigation, the following special sessions will be organised in order to address particular causes of GNSS vulnerabilities:

Core and augmentation satellite navigation systems
Safety-critical applications
Space weather and ionospheric effects
Location-based services (LBS)
Intelligent transport systems (ITS)

The contributors are kindly invited to submit the extended abstracts of 300 – 500 words by e-mail (conference@rin.org.uk) no later than 15 May 2010. The authors of abstracts accepted for presentation will be notified of reviewers’ judgement no later than 1 July 2010. Final version of conference papers are due no later than 20 August 2010.

Should you need any further information or clarifications in regard to the forthcoming GNSS Vulnerabilities and Solutions Conference, please do not hesitate to contact me, or simply visit the RIN web-site (http://www.rin.org.uk) or Twitter (http://twitter.com/satnavigator/) for the latest announcements.

In addition, the organising committee will very appreciate your kind assistance in informing your colleagues about the forthcoming event.

I am looking forward for a privilege to welcome you to Krk Island.

With my kindest regards,

Renato
