1. Fourth
European Space Weather Week. 5-9th November 2007, Brussels
Reminder: Abstract Submission Deadline 7th September 2007
**********************************************************************
From: Alexi Glover, Jean Lilensten and Ronald van der Linden
The next European Space Weather Week will take place at the Royal Library of Brussels, Belgium, from Monday 5th November to Friday 9th November 2007.
** Abstract Submission Deadline 7th September 2007 **
This meeting is being jointly organised by the Royal Observatory of elgium (ROB), ESA, the SWWT and the COST 724 communities. The local organisation is done by the SIDC of the ROB. This event will continue to build on the advances made during the first three European Space Weather Weeks held between 2004 and 2006. The workshop will again adopt the central aim of bringing together communities working on diverse elements of space weather. This year's meeting will include one full day dedicated to the final presentation of the COST 724 action dedicated to "Developing the Scientific Basis for Monitoring, Modelling and Predicting Space Weather". This will be followed by three and a half days split into a number of topical plenary sessions and splinter meetings. The central focus this year is again bridging the gap between scientific activities and applications and the topics addressed and session breakdowns will reflect this. The meeting will highlight recent advances in both scientific and applications based domains, focussing on a number of topical thematic issues from both scientific and applications oriented perspectives. The meeting will also explore community development and investigate possible routes towards the creation of a sustainable space weather activity in Europe through a dedicated session and several business meetings.
Organisation:
Following the COST 724 presentations on 5th November, the meeting will focus on 5 open sessions that address a number of topical themes:
Each session will be divided into one oral and one poster session with plenty of time devoted to discussion. Contributed papers are welcome to each of the 5 sessions. The oral presentations will cover a range of scientific and applications related themes and will consist of both invited and contributed papers. Three of the five sessions will address both scientific and applications based issues relating to a range of topical themes. Session 2 will address key scientific issues and Session 1 will be geared towards identifying the next steps towards a coordinated long-term European Space Weather activity. It is also envisaged that two round table discussion sessions on possible future European directions in space weather will take place during the week with a wrap-up of the key issues concluding the meeting.
Splinter Meetings:
A key part of the European Space Weather Weeks are the business meetings. These meetings provide the opportunity for interested participants to meet in smaller groups and address key issues in a style that compliments the open format of the plenary sessions. These meetings take the form of working meetings with reports produced and actions taken by the participants. This year, time during the ESWW4 schedule will be set aside for all splinter meeting convenors to report the main conclusions of the meetings to the full workshop.
Abstract Submission:
Online abstract submission will be possible from 1st July via the official conference website:
Abstracts can be submitted via the online system accessible through the above website. Poster contributions are welcome to all of the above sessions.
Deadline for submission: 7th September 2007
Authors will be informed of the acceptance of their abstract by the end of September prior to the ESWW4 taking place.
Registration:
- Registration will be possible via the conference websites from 1st July. The deadline for registration is 13th October 2006. - A registration fee of 80Euros will be payable. This will cover the cost of organisation and materials together with a welcome event. - A welcome reception will take place on the evening of 6th November to which all participants are invited. - A social event followed by a conference dinner will take on 7th November. Further details of this event will be made available on the conference website.
Publication:
Presentation material from the invited talks will be made available on the ESWW4 website following the event. In addition, it is envisaged that scientific and technical papers presented at this event will form a special issue of an appropriate peer-review journal. More information about this publication will be made available during the meeting.
