Experimental Models of Effects Simulation

On-ground simulation testing of Space Weather related phenomena (e.g. cosmic ray and radiation effects, charging etc.) prepares space systems for survival and improves our understanding of environments and effects. The space environment that is simulated depends strongly on the solar activity.

Test examples:

  • Coatings to resist UV, electron and proton irradiations, etc.
  • Electronic parts (total doses).
  • SEE tests are performed with the use of eccelerators.

CERT-ONERA, Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches de Toulouse (CERT), an establishment of the Office National d'Études et de Recherches Aérospatiales (ONERA), France works on these issues.

The Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) in Switzerland is involved in the testing of various effects.
